Plan ahead:

  • Bring water and a snack.
  • Adults can check out a map of the area beforehand (but don’t give away any clues!)
  • Wear or bring layers of clothing. (San Francisco micro-climates can change quickly.)

Tools for exploration:

If you have them, bring binoculars, a magnifying glass and a compass. (Though a compass is not necessary for wayfinding on your adventure, it can be a fun exploratory tool.)

Travel lightly on your planet:

Consider walking, biking or taking public transportation to your Urbia adventure starting point.

Stay on official trails in parks:

Trails are established to protect sensitive natural areas and also people!

Follow your child’s pace and interests:

Urbia Adventures contain a variety of activities and several levels of information that will not appeal universally to all children! Your enthusiasm and interest are likely to be contagious but let your child take the lead and remember that “it’s about the journey, not the destination…”
